THO: Home Management Binder
I am going to begin my Tuesday Home Organization Series with my Home Management Binder. I LOVE this binder and I am constantly refering to it for one thing or another! I have all of the important papers for our life and home in this binder. Now this is the way that I have chosen to do my binder, there isn’t a right way or wrong way and you can truly make it as simple or complex as you like. This works for our family but it may not necessarily work for yours. If you are wanting to make a binder of your own its quite simple to start one!
The binder I chose is a 1 1/2in Binder with a window in the front so I could label it. As you open it the front pocket has new bills that need to be paid and put in their sleeve or items that need attention. I am able to quickly find the bill or
membership dues or school form right away. The first page you see as you open it is a calender for the current month. This calender has every thing on it; appts, date nights, movie night, and annual charge we need to know is due, bills, birthdays… EVERYTHING! It is a direct line to everything going on in our home.
The next page is our monthly meal plan. I am able to quickly refer to this and know what is on the menu for the day or week.
I have tabs that divide up each of the following sections:
- Current week- I have a basic schedule drawn out for Monday thru Friday. I am able to keep track of tasks that are to be accomplished on specific days as well as lesson times, blog time and basic home activites and necessities here.
- Extra Forms- Extras of all of the sheets I use for my binder.
- Monthly- Calender pages and Birthday/ Anniversary Sheet
- Menu Plan- A quick reference sheet for freezer cooking and daily meal ideas. Also old menu plans for help with newer ones
Sometimes my brain doesn’t work while coming up with enough dinners
- Blog- Ideas, schedule, info, etc.
- Cleaning- Monthly and Quarterly cleaning plans as well as a Monthly Inventory sheet for our personal hygiene products.
- PFC Club- Info pertaining to my daughters school PTA
- School- Report Cards, Notes, Contact info… Anything and everything I may need
- Finances- This is a big one! With in this tab I have a few smaller categories
– I have an itemized Up to date Budget
- A list of any and all DEBT
– A tab for our income (with a plastic sleeve for each source of income)
- A tab for Checking and Savings, IRA and Life Insurance (all with their own sleeves)
- Bills tab with sleeves and 2-3 months of statements depending on each bill
-A debt tab with and invoices and payment information.
- Address’ and Phone #’s- A paper version
Well that’s basically it
This is a wonderful and helpful tool for our family and I hope I have perhaps assisted you in beginning one of your own! Let me know if you have any questions or comments!

love a home notebook! great ideas
I use a Franklin/Covey planner, is it possible to incorporate my home notebook into my planner? I carry it everywhere, it is a part of my life!
You absolutely can! Try adding a couple pockets for bills, and of course utilizing your day to day information in the calender portion. I am sure that you could make a great planner/homebook!
